Lion Choi's Tae Kwon Do
Developing
the sport, tradition and spirit of Tae Kwon Do in
Maryland for over 25 years.

Developed over 20 centuries ago, Taekwondo is a style of Martial Art that has its origins rooted in Korea. Today, it is considered an international martial art as well as an Olympic sport. In Korean, “Tae” means
to strike or kick with the foot, “Kwon” means to strike or punch with the hand, and “Do,” means the way of life. Through the study of
Taekwondo, one can achieve physical and mental discipline, self-control, self-confidence, stress relief and most importantly, self-defense.
WHY
IS TAEKWONDO SO POPULAR?
Taekwondo has endured for centuries and is today experiencing rapid growth because it offers a multitude of benefits that can be enjoyed by all people regardless of age, sex, or culture. Today, Taekwondo is being taught and practiced in over 110 countries.
Taekwondo is the Martial Art through which proficiency in self-defense can be developed in a relatively short period of time. It has been scientifically calculated for maximum efficiency of motion and therefore proven to be highly effective for self-defense. With sufficient training, the entire body of the practitioner becomes a weapon. When this level is achieved, quick reaction becomes second nature and a true sense of self-confidence is attained.
TAEKWONDO
- THE ULTIMATE FITNESS
Many,
if not most, people practice Taekwondo primarily because it is the most
complete form of exercise. Taekwondo promotes the strength and
coordination of the whole body, as well as providing maximum aerobic
fitness and flexibility.
FITNESS OF MIND AS WELL AS BODY
The tremendous physical training is only a part of the ultimate goal of
Taekwondo. The true focus is on the harnessing of human potential, the power each of us possesses but rarely uses. If Taekwondo is to be called an Art of self-defense, then its goal is best described in this manner: The best self-defenses of a serene, self-contained, person at peace with himself and the world around him.
This type of personal development emphasizes, but is not limited to, the development of mental discipline, emotional self-restraint and a philosophy of kindness, humility and a strong moral character. One who has mastered Taekwondo is a powerful, but gentle individual.
"Knowledge in the brain, honesty in the heart, and strength in the body" is a motto that Martial Artists around the world share. Taekwondo’s quest is to spread its logic, goodness and philosophy for the cause of World peace.
TAEKWONDO
IS FOR EVERYBODY
Everyone and anyone will reap rewards from practicing Taekwondo. Children develop concentration and confidence that help them in school. Teens experience a sense of pride that gives them the ability to stand up for what is right, even when faced with conflicting moral values, temptations, and peer pressure. Adults find that Taekwondo allows them to advance at their own pace, handle daily stress and feel years younger. Everyone sets his or her own goals in order to become a well developed, graceful, and fulfilled individual.
