Q. What is the difference between Taekwondo and Karate?
A. The main difference between the two is place of origin. Taekwondo originates from Korea, while Karate originates from Japan. Taekwondo has more involvement of the feet than the hands. In contrast, Karate has more involvement of the hands than the feet.
Q. How is Lion Choi’s Taekwondo different from other Taekwondo schools?
A. Lion Choi’s is considered an authentic Taekwondo school. We teach Taekwondo the way it is intended to be taught, never with watered down instruction. We are not a Taekwondo factory that gives black belts away. Earning a black belt at Lion Choi’s is comparable to earning a black belt at the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Federation Headquarters in Seoul, Korea). At Lion Choi’s, we know that every person advances at a different pace. We work with every student and give personal attention when needed so individual goals can be achieved.
Q. How long will it take to become a black belt?
A. Earning a black belt at Lion Choi’s generally takes abut 2 ½ years.
Q. How many students are in a typical class?
A. We have about 15-20 students per class, with a minimum of two certified instructors. We keep our classes purposefully small in order to give personal attention to those students who are in need of it. As a result, the classes are very organized versus a school that has an overwhelming student to instructor ratio.
Q. How much do lessons cost?
A. The cost varies depending on which program the individual or family chooses. For example, a 6-month course will differ in cost from a yearly course. We recommend that an appointment be scheduled so you can take an opportunity to look at our facility and meet with our instructors. At that time, one of our staff members will be more than willing to go over the details of what we have to offer.
Q. How soon can I start classes?
A. We offer beginner classes for both children and adults. Whenever you feel ready, you can start your journey into the art of Taekwondo.
